Erika-West Danque

Owner & Head Trainer.

USDF Gold, Silver & Bronze Medalist.

Erika is founder and owner of Erika-West Dressage. She is a USDF Gold, Silver and Bronze medalist who has spent most of her life living around and working with horses.  She is passionate about riding, teaching, and training horsemanship and Classical Dressage with more than 17 years of experience. Her goal is to help every rider and horse achieve their maximum potential with a vibrant and dynamic link.

Erika's first horse was a Paint pony stallion named Buddy that she purchased when he was 2 and she was 12 with money that she had already earned from training ponies. She brought Buddy from basic ground manners training and rode him in Dressage competitions all the way through Intermediaire II.  Erika and Buddy have put on exhibitions for the Houston Dressage Society (HDS) where Erika rides both bridle-less and bareback.   Erika has won numerous HDS and USDF awards as both a Junior/Young Rider and in the Open division, including riding many horses to the top 20 and several into the top 10 in USDF HOY rankings. She has qualified every year of the US Dressage Finals on several different horses.

Erika’s current primary competition mounts are her own 2007 Holsteiner gelding named Chancellor WAS (Cathalido x Jomez who is by Columbus) bred by Walkabout Station, whom she was invited to compete at the National Young Horse Championships in 2011 where he came in 12th place against excellent competition and in 2016 placed 4th in the US Dressage Finals Open 4th level Championship. Her primary goal for Chancellor is to continue developing him into a happy solid FEI horse working towards the sensational GP that he has the athleticism for.

Incognito, who is a 1998 Dutch Riding Horse gelding who she purchased in the spring of 2016 and is currently competing in I-2 and Grand Prix.  Earning the final score for her USDF Gold Medal in the fall of 2016.  She also owns a Hanoverian stallion prospect named Be Niro WS (Benetton Dream x Winessa by Deniro) who she purchased from Walkabout Station as a 3 month old. In 2013 and 2015 he was Southern Series Champion colt/gelding and was 2015 USEF DHSB Champion for 3 year old colts! She has now started him under saddle and is very excited about his future in the Dressage ring.

Zoe owned by Evelyn Angelle who is a 2004 KWPN (Taxateur x Symphony by Juventu) Keur mare currently competing successfully at I-1 and preparing for I-2 in 2017.

Erika was a working student with Lurena Bell for 4 1/2 years. She currently trains primarily with Whit Watkins and has enjoyed clinicing with Charles DeKunffy, Scott Hassler, William Solyntjes and Jan Ebeling. She also hosts and attends numerous clinics and has attended the annual Young Dressage Horse Trainers Symposium in Maryland and the FEI Trainer Symposium in FL to continue her advanced dressage education in addition to her constant pursuit of the discipline. Erika has worked extremely hard to achieve her current level of experience and with USEF recognition has placed herself squarely among the best riders and trainers in the United States.

Erika offers lessons to students from Intro to FEI level.  She is happy to coach riders with modest goals such as improving general horsemanship and takes great joy in sharing the journey with the more ambitious. From the later category many of Erika's students have qualified for GAIG and SWDC Region 9 Championships and several of her students have progressed all the way to FEI under Erika's assistance even earning their Bronze and Silver Medals and Freestyle Bars.
